Canonical, a UK based company, is expected to bring smartphones to market by this year. Mark Shuttleworth, the CEO and founder at Canonical said that they will be making smartphones by October 2013.

Ubunto OS for smartphones was seen last year and developers were working on it. Enthusisasts have been eagerly waiting for its arrival. Once launched, Ubuntu will compete with other mobile OSes like iOS (Apple), Android (Google), BlackBerry and Windows Phone (Microsoft).

Shuttleworth said Ubunto OS for mobile will be made available in 2 big geographic markets in October this year. He also said that cellular operators are trying to break free the hegemony of Google and Apple devices.
