Aakash 2 to Launch with Android 4.0 ICS Update
Aakash has earned a lot of popularity among people in India, especially because it is destined for the educational sector. This time, the brand is again set to launch its all new Aakash 2 which will be flaunting its latest Google Android version, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operation system. Moreover, the Aakash 2 tablet will be powered with a dual core processor and will be available later this year as said by the maker.
The chief executive officer of Datawind, Suneet Singh Tuli has said that the Aakash 2 tablet will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS update after six to eight weeks of launch of this device in May 2012. He further added that once the cost of hardware comes down further they will be able to offer improved dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor later in 2012.
The first manufacturing units of Aakash 2 that is planned to be launched in May will ship with Android v2.3 Gingerbread operating system and single core 800 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor. However, the company has decided to be in competition while providing low cost Android tablet to the consumers. Therefore, the later products which are yet to be produced will be integrated with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and dual core processor. With this powerful integration, Aakash 2 will be able to run more powerfully and give good user-experience.
Despite this, the tablet will only provide 256 MB RAM and 2 GB in-built memory. Both these features are set by Google as standard to run Android 4.0 operating system in the device. Aakash project has been immensely delayed right since the beginning as demand for its products were very high and productions were not on quick response. Due to the delay in productions, Aakash tablets have lost a lot of owners who were earlier interested in buying it, but later when they witnessed other low cost tablets in the market, they shifted to other options. Well, Aakash was launched on the right time with right move due and was backed by the government due to which much of the people relied on it. However, its delay and un-kept promises lowered down the demands of this brand where various other brands have been launched with good features.
In this situation, if Aakash 2 gets this new update, Android 4.0, then the device is needed to be shipped with better hardware than the features added to it earlier. Other features that Aakash 2 will get apart from all the above mentioned features are –
- A new 7 inches of capacitive touchscreen is provided whereas; the earlier device had resistive screen
- Aakash 2 will also get a better battery than the earlier device
As of now, the company has promised to offer a dual core processor which can probably be possible considering the declining cost chips and processors. Still, no announcements are made regarding the cost of this device which will retain all latest updates.
