7.9-inch Apple iPad Mini Unveiled, Priced at $329

Apple has not only unveiled its new iPad for starting price of $499, but has also unveiled a 7.9-inch iPad Mini for just $329.

iPad Mini is a smaller version of the original device and flaunts its 7.9 inches touch display that comes equipped with Retina display technology. The device runs on powerful dual-core A5 processor and features a 5 megapixel iSight camera with 1080p recording and FaceTime HD camera. It directly challenges the smaller versions in the market which are giving tough competition to other smaller tablets. Now, Apple wants to beat this segment and stand alone in the place of victory. The Mini will straightly challenge Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7.

The tablet will run on iOS 6 and Apple promises that the battery backup will be of up to 10 hours, same as said for the full-size iPad. Owners who are interested should apply for pre-orders which will start from this Friday in the United States for Wi-Fi only versions which will ship a week later.

The senior vice president of worldwide marketing from Apple Phil Schiller has said that this model has gained 35 percent additional screen space as compared to those 7 inches tablets provided on the devices of its competitors. With same screen resolution, you can expect existing apps to run smoothly. Apart from running on iOS 6, the device features 8-pin Lightning dock which was newly introduced on iPhone 5 in September.

One big challenge for Apple is Google Nexus 7 which is expected to be priced below Rs. 20,000 in Indian tablet market. So, the manufacturer has to play wisely and keep the price as low as possible, because Mini is specifically designed to cater this mid-size segment. If the price remains high, the company may lose some of its customers to Google, which is not a good way for Apple Mini.
