EAFT Destiny D90T – Good features but a bit too pricey

EAFT is a new tablet making company in India and their products aren’t China made. They are made in India itself. EAFT Destiny D90T is one of the few products by this company that isn’t made in India and it comes with impressive features like 8 GB built-in memory, 1 GB RAM, and 1.6 GHz dual core chip inside.

EAFT Destiny D90T also comes with dual camera inside with an LED flash. With this tablet, you get six months of free subscription for Worldspace satellite radio. All this sounds quite good but the price of the tablet is relatively steep as compared to competition. At Rs. 14,990, the price will certainly raise eyebrows considering it is just a Wi-Fi tablet.

EAFT Destiny D90T doesn’t have the typical tablet looks. This device is different from others out there and has 3 part construction. Rear panel is white shiny plastic and edges come with aluminium finish to it which gets in to rear panel on bottom and top. Front display and the surroundings are covered in single glass piece.

EAFT Destiny D90T is a good looking tablet but there is some flex due to 3 parts design. This raises some concerns about the long-life of the tablet. The review model which we got had some scratches and it felt like it was heavily used by someone before. Looking at the used tablet, it feels that the device can take moderate abuse quite well. Display had some scratches and there was also some squeaking sound when we tried to flex this body.

Right side of the device has power socket, microSD, USB, and HDMI port. There is also lock/power button and a volume rocker button on right side. Camera is located on both sides.

EAFT Destiny D90T comes with 9.7 inches IPS display having a resolution of 1,024×768 pixels. This resolution isn’t really good for a screen of this size but is still acceptable. Viewing angles are good and colour reproduction too is impressive. The level of brightness could have been better as visibility in bright sunlight isn’t too good. Touch sensitivity is good as well. Overall, the screen quality is quite good but there isn’t anything spectacular about it.

EAFT Destiny D90T comes with 1.6GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor inside with a gig of RAM. There is also eight gigabytes of internal memory on the tablet. This hardware  is good enough for playing graphic intensive games such as Real Racing 3 and this is good for a tablet in this price range.

However, if you are playing any hardware challenging games, then it is recommended to switch off other apps or else the game might run slow. Overall, the hardware is good enough for this price range.

EAFT Destiny D90T comes with two megapixels camera on either side of the tablet. Rear camera has LED flash and front camera is good only for video chats. Both cameras aren’t good for clicking pictures and if you are fond of photography, we would recommend you to look elsewhere.

For instance, Samsung tablets offer better cameras in the same price range but they are seven inch tablets.

EAFT Destiny D90T comes with 8,000mAh battery inside and this is big for even a tablet. The performance of this battery too is good. In our tests, it lasted for couple of days when we used it for few hours. With continuous use, this battery just lasted for six to seven hours which is quite good considering that this is budget tablet.

UI and OS

EAFT Destiny D90T runs on Android 4.0.4 and this is disappointing since it is older version of the OS. Indian manufacturers usually don’t offer OS updates and you might be stuck with this older version for ever.

There aren’t many changes done to UI which is good and users have good space for installing their own apps.

EAFT Destiny D90T is a good tablet and has good features, performance, display, battery life, etc. however, the price of the tablet is a bit too high and hence it is hard to recommend it especially when competition is offering their products for lesser price. We would recommend you to take a look at Simmtronics Xpad X1010 or Spice Mi010. Both cost less than Rs. 8,500.
