As usual, the Padfone 2 has got similar design and color like the earlier Asus Padfone model. The device is a combination of cellphone, tablet and laptop. So, users get 3-in-1 experience like never before. This concept has introduced docking option where the cellphone can be docked in the tablet to get a whole tablet experience. Other than this, you can also attach it to a keyboard docking station. Both the tablet and the keyboard get built-in batteries to run efficiently, but the functionality won’t be impressive unless the cellphone is docked in it. Asus Padfone has got unique design that has already won Golden Award for Smart Handheld Devices Innovation 2011.
The device was launched in June 2012 in the United States and few Asian markets, and now it has made its way to India during September 2012 with a price tag of around Rs. 65,000 which is too much for many Indian owners.
The device measures 137.9 mm by 68.9mm by 9mm and weighs 135 grams which is not bad at all. Moreover, the display sports 4.7 inches Super AMOLED HD display that is well protected through Gorilla Glass. This makes the display worth the money.
It is powered with a 1.5 GHz Quad-Core Krait processor which gives fantastic process and loading of apps. Users will be delighted to experience amazing multi-tasking which not even dual core processor actually provides. The device gets Chipset Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon and Adreno 320 graphic processing unit that makes more clear view on screen. It has got 2 GB Ram which can be used to store a lot of apps and other programs. The device supports 2G and 3G network, but looking after the current trend, Asus has offered 4G (LTE) network as well. This is a miniSIM integrated device that enables users to call others and talk like using a phone.
Despite the in-built memory, users can add up to 32 GB expandable memory via a microSD card slot. This will eliminate the problem of storing music, videos and other files.
The device is also mysteriously equipped with a powerful primary camera which offers 13 megapixel sensor with 4032 by 3224 pixels autofocus feature and LED flash support. Users would love to enjoy 1080p HD video recording. Also offered is a front facing camera with 1.2 megapixel sensor which is very much demanded for concluding a video call.
Asus Padfone 2 A68 gets a powerful 2140 mAh battery that easily gives good backup for the day even if you use Wi-Fi for several hours. It is said that the device will give a talk time back up of up to 16 hours. Other features include gyro for good gaming experience, NFC support, proximity, compass, accelerometer, geo tagging, face detection, touch focus, WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
The device will be launched at Italy, Milan and Taiwan. In fact, many reports suggest that the device will be released quickly in Europe and some Asian markets. Considering the launch of earlier Padfone model, it was released in September 2012. So, now for Padfone 2, it may take 3-4 months for launching in India.
This docking cellphone is quite a lot different than the other latest devices and is attached to the tablet for giving sleeker and lighter experience than the earlier Padfone.
There is much to reveal about Asus Padfone 2 smartphone cum tablet device where its specs become most enchanting for users. The device runs the current Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. What makes the device more promising is its powerful GPU and CPU performance which can beat the market leaders who offered Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5. Well, this processor and chipset has also been used in LG Optimus G that smartly out performs all the existing cellphones in the market. The LTE feature provided to this device adds nice touch for the American and European users.
One more interesting technology is used in this device where users can enjoy Asus Bluetooth 4.0 Stylus. It is not a common stylus, rather looks very attractive. It has integrated mic, volume control keys and speaker. Also, it is charged over microUSB port.
When the device is docked in, users still can receive calls by using USB Pen Stylus. This is a fascinating technology where users will just have to hold the pen to ear just like a phone. This Stylus was included as an accessory in earlier model and is expected to remain in Padfone 2 as well.
