Gionee Dream D1 vs Micromax Canvas HD – Battle of two quad core smartphones
Quad core phones were expensive but things have changed a lot now. There are a lot of manufacturers making affordable smartphones having quad core processors inside. With price less than Rs. 20k anyone can buy them,
One of the most popular high end smartphones (by Indian phone maker) out there has been Micromax Canvas HD A116 which has sold impressively. Gionee, an old Chinese phone maker recently launched their phones in India and one of them was Dream D1 priced at Rs. 17,999.
Here we compare both phones head to head. Read on to know which handset is the best –
Micromax Canvas HD A116 handset is really slim and it looks attractive too. It comes with non-slippery and shiny body. The build quality is good and the body doesn’t feel cheap in the hand. This phone is 10.7mm thick and the weight is 156 gms.
On the other hand, Dream D1 comes with sleeker body and it is lighter as well. This handset is just 8.6mm thick and the weight is 140 grams. Back panel comes with a texture which gives good grip and also prevents any smudges from turning up. There is just one colour option – graphite black and doesn’t look as attractive as Canvas HD.
Both handsets have good and high res screens. Micromax Canvas HD A116 comes with five inches screen having resolution of 1,280×720 pixels and it has 294ppi pixel density. Gionee Dream D1 has 4.65 inches screen with Super AMOLED screen. The resolution of this screen isn’t known yet.
Comparing the two screens head to head, we liked the display of Gionee Dream D1 better as it had superior quality but Canvas HD A116 quality isn’t too far behind.
Both phones have high resolution cameras. The Micromax Canvas HD A116 has eight megapixels camera on back and it has dual LED flash. Apart from this, there is also two megapixels front facing camera. Both cameras give HD videos and photos. However, while reviewing the Canvas HD, we found that the camera app had a bug and the quality was a bit less than what the MP rating said.
On the other hand, Gionee Dream D1 comes with eight megapixels shooter as well and it has LED flash too. It can record 1080p full HD videos at 30 fps or frames per second. On the front, there is smaller one megapixels camera. This handset comes with cool burst mode feature which is pretty nifty and it lets you capture about 99 pictures at a time.
We didn’t get to test the camera quality of Dream D1 and hence can’t tell you about the quality.
Micromax Canvas HD A116 has 2,000mAh battery inside and it has five hours rated talk time on full recharge. Dream D1 comes with 2,100 mAh battery inside and in our tests, we got around one day back up. We haven’t tested the battery extensively yet but we will be doing it soon. Also, D1 comes with smaller display and hence the battery life might be more than Canvas HD.
Both phone are on par on this front as both have latest Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean OS inside.
Micromax Canvas HD A116 comes with quad core MediaTek processor with 1.2 GHz clock speed. Gionee Dream D1 too has same processor inside and both phones come with 1 GB RAM. However, the GPU inside might be different on these phones. On the speed front, we expect Dream D1 to be better as it has smaller display and hence processor go through less stress.
Gionee Dream D1 and Micromax Canvas HD has 4 GB ROM inside. The microSD card slot can accept up to 32GB cards inside. Gionee comes with 16GB card bundled and Canvas HD comes with none.
Micromax is an old player in the Indian market and hence has better service support. Gionee is relatively new and offer same support. However, Micromax has been struggling to meet rising demands for Canvas HD and it is sold out in most stores in India.
The cost of Gionee Dream D1 is Rs. 1,500 more than the Canvas HD. We doubt the post sales service provided by Gionee but apart from that, Dream D1 is either ahead or is at par with Canvas A116. Hence, our winner here is Gionee Dream D1.
