Byond B63 preview – Fast phone with latest Android OS
Byond is an Indian cell phone maker and they recently launched a lot of new phones in the market. Byond B63 is one of them. This phone is a prototype of HTC One X and has high end features inside like dual core 1.2 GHz processor, Android Jelly Bean OS, eight megapixels camera, etc.
The first thing we noticed about the Byond B63 is the big bezel of the camera. This phone looks a lot like HTC One X. It also has the feel of HTC handset.
The phone feels a tad heavy in hands. However, it has good back panel and it isn’t too slippery. The camera bezel gives this phone premium look. Volume rocker and power button are located close to each other on right side. They are placed too close and we pressed wrong button a lot of times.
Speaker grille is located on bottom side of rear panel.
Byond B63 comes with four and half inches having qHD resolution of 540×960 pixels. It is 240 ppi or pixels per inch. The resolution is good but Byond could have done better.
The screen doesn’t feel like it is scratch resistant. Brightness of this phone is good in indoor conditions but we didn’t get to test it outdoors.
Byond B63 has ARM v7 dual core processor inside having clock speed of 1.2 GHz. The RAM is a bit low at 512 MB. Micromax Canvas II too has same amount of RAM inside and it performed well in our tests. Hence, we think that Byond B63 too might have same fast performance even with less RAM inside.
There is Android 4.1 OS aka Jelly Bean on this phone and this is one of the first Indian phones to have the latest iteration of the Android OS.
Byond B63 has eight megapixels camera on the back and there is 0.3 megapixel camera close for making video calls. We didn’t do exhaustive testing of this camera and took just a couple of shots. Front camera is good only for making video calls and the quality of rear camera isn’t worth 8MP tag.
We will do an in depth testing in our full review later so stay tuned.
Byond B63 comes with 2,000 mAh capacity battery inside which is good considering the features inside. We are yet to test the talk time limits of this battery.
Byond B63 comes with 4GB internal memory and 2GB of it is available for the users. The microSD card slot supports up to 32GB cards.
Other features of this phone include 3.5mm headphones jack, Bluetooth, microUSB, Wi-Fi, and 3G. There is also proximity sensor, light sensor, and G-sensor.
Byond B63 price is Rs. 12,499 but you can find it for less than 10 grand at different online stores.
This phone looks promising with features like Jelly Bean OS and fast dual core CPU. We will cover a full review of this phone soon to see if it is worth the buck.
