Byond B51 – Android 2.3 phone having modest features and affordable price
Byond is a relatively new company in the world of mobile phones and recently, they launched a few handsets in different price segments for attracting different tastes. They now have a lot of phones ranging from screen sizes of five to three-and-half inches.
Byond B51 is smallest cell phone in this range and it is the least expensive as well. The price of this handset is just Rs. 3,500. It doesn’t have 3G but you still get some high end features like 1 GHz chip, dual camera, and all sensors that you’d get on an Android cell phone. The screen size too is big. However, this phone will still have to compete with other handsets in this price range.
Byond B51 comes with 2 colour options – black and white. Each model has the same colour in back and front. There is chrome strip on sides of this phone. Rear side is totally flat and there are curve on edges. Front side too is flat.
Rear side has three megapixels camera on back and it is accompanied by LED flash. There is speaker grille located on back side. Front side has camera, light sensor, and proximity sensor all located close to ear piece. The arrangement is such that they look a bit dull in white model and in black colour, it is good. That said, this is a small quirk about the design and isn’t a deal breaker.
There are 3 capacitive touch based buttons located below the screen. Lock/power button is located on top ride and it is easily accessible. Volume rocker is located on left. Byond B51 review says that there is just one flaw in the design; the phone is pretty slippery in the hands.
Byond B51 comes with three and half inches screen and it has resolution of 320×480 pixels. This resolution isn’t really high but it is still good considering the price. There isn’t much pixilation on this display either. We tested the touch and it worked fine throughout our tests. There was any lag and even capacitive touch based buttons responded well.
Byond B51 is an inexpensive and budget phone. It isn’t made for gaming. The performance is still good considering the modest hardware inside. Transitions between the screens were smooth. The apps opened fast and worked fine as well.
There is just 256 MB RAM inside and it is low. Bigger phones have 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM. Low RAM means that you won’t be able to play any high end games inside. We could still play games like 3D speed moto racing and Dragon Fly very well.
Byond B51 doesn’t have 3G or GPS. For connecting to internet, there is 2G and it worked well when we tested it. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. We tested FM radio and it worked well too.
Byond B51 comes with 1,500 mAh battery inside and in our testing; it gave us backup for nearly 2 days. The battery life is longer due to absence of high end features like GPS and 3G.
Byond B51 comes with Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread OS. It is relatively old now and all recent phones use Android Jelly Bean OS. But we won’t complain about it as this is an inexpensive phone. The manufacturer has made some changes in this OS and they all look good. Control bar and drop down notification make this phone user friendly.
Byond B51 will compete with phones from other Indian manufacturers like Karbonn, Micromax, and iBall. After reviewing it, we feel that this phone is better than other similarly priced phones out there. Byond isn’t as popular as the aforementioned three Indian brands and hence it might struggle to get popular.
Byond B51 price is Rs. 3,500 and it is good considering the features inside.
Byond B51 gives good value for money and the performance is good too. Keep your expectations modest and you will be happy with this phone.
